With the 2005 ozone season under way and Knoxville under a federal mandate to clean up its air, former Vice President Al Gore and former U.S. Sen. Howard H. Baker Jr. will headline a conference on air quality Wednesday, March 9, at the University of Tennessee.
Gore, who made the environment a signature issue during his political career, and Baker, whose long career in public service also included stints as White House chief of staff and U.S. ambassador to Japan, will speak at "Cleaning America's Air - Progress and Challenges," a daylong examination of air quality issues facing East Tennessee and the nation.
The conference, which will be held at UT's University Center, is free and open to the public.
